Week in a Bed and Breakfast in France

TIME FOR A BREAK OR BASIL FAWLTY HERE I COME!

Well its now the end of another season here at our beautiful riverside retreat at Le Grand Saule in Moncontour, Vienne.  We have welcomed visitors from all over the world from America in the West, to Israel in the East, from Denmark in the north to Australia in the south - very cosmopolitan this year especially.  Most of our guests have been fabulous and many have kept in touch since they left here - sending messages of good wishes and photographs taken both here in France and back at their homes, so often we get to know their families - if only by photograph.

What a Long Time

Well what a long time since I was last one here and so much has happened.  The Bed and Breakfast continued to be solidly booked right throughout August with people coming from all over the world and all over France.

For me personally things were just as busy and trying to tie everything up was a devil of a a job.  Way back in July or August I wrote that I had been interviewed on Radio WM with regards to French Tourism and how they could get more Midland people visiting France.

FIVE MINUTES OF FAME

They say that everyone has five minutes of fame.  I had mine today on Radio WM who apparently had the or part of the french tourist board in the radio station.  What they wanted to know was how they could get more Midlanders to travel to France as part of their holidays.

Well hailing from the Midlands myself it is somewhat of a sore point - since Ryanair stopped all flights to Birmingham from Poitiers a couple of years ago.  When we first moved to Moncontour, Vienne in France there were regular daily flights back to Birmingham which whenever we or family or friends caught them, were always full.

Bed and Breakfast confusion

I would write that being Sunday that its another week over - but I am not sure any more what day of the week it is!  We have guests coming and going on all days of the week - one day seems very much like the next.

We do seem this year to have picked up quite a few guests from America and Australia and many who have come for weddings.  Weddings do seem to be the theme this year - with guests staying for weddings here in Moncontour, at the town of Oiron, Airvault, Loudun and yesterday as far away as Trois Moutiers just north of Loudun and Moucoutant which is about 50 km away.

One week in a Bed and Breakfast

The BnB year so far has been very interesting.  Last year we had UN workders and UNESCO workers and people from throughout Europe.   This year so far we have had people from all over the world - Australia, America, Holland and people with varying interests from Champagne caps collectors to hot air balloonists. .... What will the rest of the year bring.....?

Week in a Bed and Breakfast in France

Last week champagne capsule collectors, this week a Lotus car collector for a rally to Saumur!  What interesting lives other people lead.

Champagne Capsule collectors at Le Grand Saule Chambre dHotes.Until last week I had never heard of champagne cap collecting - some of the caps are really beautiful and needless to say worth a lot of money - watch out for my write up onwww.guide2poitoucharentes.comin the coming months.  It seems to be quite a passion for some people - asked if he also drank the champagne Gerard Gioria said 'oui, un petit peu.
